Record breaking rains this year mean we are flooded (excuse our pun) with questions from clients and friends who are noticing new leaks where they’ve never occurred before. The two most common leaks we hear about during periods of heavy rain are 1) isolated roof leaks or 2) water intrusion in the basement.
Beyond the obvious impacts of a water leak, our clients also want to know if a new leak will impact their ability to sell their home down the road. Our answer is always the same:
In the case of isolated water leaks after a heavy rain, have the issue professionally addressed so it remains an isolated incident and it should not have a negative impact on the sale of your home.
Here are a few things that homeowners can do to keep your home dry during the rainy season.
- Making sure your gutters AND down spouts are clean and clear.
- An annual sump-pump inspection
- Ensure their is a positive grade around your home (slope landscape and hardscape away from your home)
If you’re in need of we have a vetted professional there for you. We work with the same trusted people time and time again because we know they do quality work for great prices – and also because we can’t rest unless we’re positive that everything will go smoothly.
