How To Maintain Your Asphalt Driveway
Your driveway takes a lot of wear and tear; every season brings another hit on your driveway. Now that we’re out of winter, summer is the best time to maintain your driveway and prepare it for winter.
The majority of homes in Central Ohio have asphalt driveways. Many of our clients have asked whether sealcoating their asphalt driveway is a good idea. Sealcoating means putting a hot layer of BitChem mix, the sticky glue that holds asphalt together, on top of the current driveway.
Without a sealcoat, your driveway will lose its dark black hue over time and become more gray, but that is the design of asphalt driveways. One reason that experts will advise against sealcoating is because once you start sealcoating your driveway, you can never stop. If there are cracks due to freezing and thawing that occurs in the winter here, you can still fill them. If you are going to sealcoat, then plan on doing that every 2-3 years.
If you choose to sealcoat, we recommend Americoat and Jeff at Proseal.
